Celebrating Mothers Day on the second Sunday of May is a new holiday in India but with great success. As a foreign holiday, it is a great achievement to be so popular for only a decade in a country like India.

The globalization has helped this mainly American holiday to get popular in India. The information about the others countries is more accessible than ever with internet. However, the mail reason, which made Mothers Day so popular in India, is the emotions about this holiday brings. Because it does not matter in which part of the world you are, the mothers are mothers everywhere. They are loved and respected in India as in any other place around the world. Everywhere people probably need such a day devoted solely to mothers.

In India Mothers Day is a day to reflect the importance of the mothers in our lives. The Indians say big “Thank you” to their mothers for the sacrifices their moms did to made their life better, for the hardships she had passed through to bring them up and for being a guiding force in their lives.

In India people send greeting cards to their mothers, buy some special presents for her, prepare the lunch or the main dinner so the mom can has a day off the kitchen. The main idea is to make her feel special and loved on this day.

In the big cities and metros, Mothers Day is celebrated much greater than in the small ones. In Delchi, the capital city the holiday is commercialized to a great extend. Various Mothers Day products are advertised around this day, the restaurants and bars are extremely busy, the mass media performs special programs. Probably the Mothers day will be soon celebrated as a national holiday in India, if it continues to spread its popularity with the same speed.
